Virtual Hearing Consultations in Magnolia

Video conferencing has been around for a while.

It became common in every household in 2020 during COVID-19 lockdowns as the only way to stay connected to family, friends, and work colleagues.

Magnolia Hearing has been using video conferencing technology for teleaudiology appointments for several years, allowing us to continue to provide hearing care to our patients with live virtual hearing consultations in Magnolia and Seattle.

Since teleaudiology is relatively new, you probably have some questions about it. Let’s start by answering those.

A Patient Wearing Hearing Equipment at Magnolia Hearing

“What if I have difficulty leaving home, or can’t drive?”

We fully understand that not everybody has full mobility, or may not have access to a vehicle, in order to get to appointments. The Magnolia Hearing teleaudiology appointment service ensures that you still get exceptional hearing care whatever your situation.

Setting up Your Online Audiologist Appointment with Magnolia

Setting up a teleaudiology appointment is as easy as scheduling an appointment in the clinic, if not easier. Here are the simple steps for setting up a consultation and what you can expect throughout the process:

Fill out the “Schedule a Teleaudiology Appointment” form on this page. A member of our Magnolia Hearing team will contact you in order to schedule your appointment.
After confirming a scheduled time, you’ll get a confirmation email. Within the email are instructions to help you set up and test the camera and microphone on your device as well as the link you’ll need to connect for your appointment.
When the date and time for your appointment arrives, you’ll use the link in your email to connect to one of our professional audiologists for a face-to-face consultation.
Your virtual consultation will be similar to an in-office consultation with a discussion of your case, testing, and advice/counseling from a doctor of audiology.

Frequently Asked Questions about Teleaudiology

What is teleaudiology, and how does it work?

In a nutshell, teleaudiology involves connecting patients with audiologists virtually. It allows our patients to continue to receive hearing care at home, in the office, or wherever you happen to be.

It works for those who are ill, have travel challenges, are unable to arrange dependent care, can’t get away from work, or need a personal consultation with their hearing care provider when they’re out of town on business or vacation.

What types of services can I receive through teleaudiology?

Teleaudiology provides convenient online hearing care for those who need it, whenever they need it, and wherever they need it, whether for expert virtual hearing assessments, seamless remote hearing aid support, or so much more.

Do I need any special equipment for virtual hearing consultations?

The only equipment you need is a device (e.g., PC, laptop, tablet, smartphone, etc.) with a video camera and microphone as well as access to the internet.

Is teleaudiology as effective as in-person appointments?

Since a teleaudiology appointment is a live, face-to-face consultation with your hearing care provider, it’s very close to being there in person.

Can I get my hearing aids adjusted through teleaudiology?

Yes. Most modern hearing aids offer remote access by using a smartphone app. Our audiologists and hearing instrument specialists can use that to adjust your hearing aids during a teleaudiology appointment.

Are virtual hearing tests accurate?

A recent study published in BMC Digital Health provides the best response to this question:

“While clinicians historically limited teleaudiology to only counseling and education, systematic reviews have found otoscopy, pure-tone and immittance audiometry, and objective assessments such as otoacoustic emissions (OAE) and auditory brainstem response (ABR) conducted through teleaudiology give no clinically significant differences in results compared to in-person administration.”

Is my personal health information secure during virtual consultations?

Yes. Telehealth is a safe and secure way to consult with your healthcare provider online. Your telehealth appointments, messages, and information are protected by privacy laws in the same way your in-office appointments are.

Can I get teleaudiology services for my child or elderly family member?

Sure. Anyone who is provided access to the equipment and internet connection can take advantage of a teleaudiology appointment.
