Professional hearing care is a service that I would recommend to everyone; hearing properly can improve your mental and physical health and not just how well you can hear the conversation around you!
But hearing care and hearing aids can get pricey, especially depending on the level of hearing loss you may have. Finding out if your insurance can cover all or even some of your hearing care could be a huge step toward helping you hear, and live, better.
Where Do I Start?
The first step is often the hardest one: making a phone call.
Insurance coverage differs from state to state, so the best place to begin your search is by calling your insurance provider and asking them.
Phone calls can get confusing—and insurance coverage is even more confusing sometimes!—but finding out the details about what your insurance can cover is crucial for finding out what hearing care you can invest in.
What Should I ask?
Here are some of the recommended questions to ask your insurance provider:
- Does my insurance cover hearing tests alone or hearing aids as well?
- Am I restricted to seeing certain audiologists, or can I see anyone?
- Do you have a list of the types of hearing aids you can cover?
- Are there any financial limits on hearing devices I can get covered by insurance?
- Does my hearing loss need to be at a certain level to qualify for hearing aid coverage?
- Do I pay for my hearing aids now and you reimburse me later, or do you accept direct billing from my hearing care provider?
